December 2021 Newsletter
Dear Patrons,
The last few days have been busy here at the library as several projects are culminating.
First I’m sad to tell you that remote access to Ancestry.com will end on December 31, 2021. Some of you have enjoyed the option of using ancestry at home so I know you’ll be disappointed just remember you can come to the library and access ancestry on the library computers.
Secondly, I want you to know that the library’s computer equipment – switches and security appliance – (things that make the internet work) have been upgraded with brand new equipment. Compliments of the federal government.
Third, I’m excited to tell you about Wi-Fi Hotspot checkouts. In an effort to provide internet access to everyone many public libraries across the nation provide wi-fi hotspots. The federal government through the ARPA grants have helped many libraries ours included get this program going. The checkouts will be available soon for any adult with a valid library account. Checkouts are for two weeks and cannot be renewed. Call the library for more information.
Fourth, along with the wi-fi hotspots Facebook Portals will available for checkout soon. These are a great way to video call friends and family for the holidays. The Portals were purchased through a grant. A Facebook account is required to use them. A Portal can be checkout from the library by any adult with a valid library account. Checkouts are for two weeks and cannot be renewed. Call the library for more information.
Happy Holidays,
Lillie Huckaby
Library Director
