October 2021 Newsletter
Hello Wonderful Library Patrons,
This month includes National Friends of the Library week, October 17th – 23rd. I am very thankful for our Friends of the Library group. They are amazing. Think about all they do. There’s the always anticipated annual or semi-annual book sales. I’m grateful for the book sales which relocate many wonderful books to new owners. And if they didn’t have those book sales this library building would explode from all the incredible donations that you bring in. And then there’s the delicious Chocolate Celebrations, my mouth waters at just the thought. Both of those events take a great deal of work to make happen. Then there is the work behind the scenes such as going through all of the donations that come in and processing them – sometimes they need to be cleaned, sorted, boxed and taken to storage. This is ongoing throughout the year, year after year. Also, I call on the Friends for help for various tasks. Several Friends helped with the No Cost Meals programs last summer, they purchased freezers for that program also, and literally brought them to the library. Some Friends come to the library on a regular basis to volunteer doing shelving, or preparing crafts for story time, or whatever needs to be done. They meet monthly to keep business moving forward for those events and whatever they can do for the library even when times are tough. There will a proclamation from the Mayor on October 18th at 6:00 pm prior to City Council meeting, if you’re a Friends member come and be in a photo. If you’re not a Friends member but want to say thanks to them come and bear witness. Many of you reading this are members of the Friends so I say to you THANK YOU. Please join me in saying thank you to the Friends. There will be a large thank you card at the library that week for everyone to sign to say thanks.
Respectfully,
Lillie Huckaby
